⛵ South Carolina - Sailing Resources
South Carolina offers excellent coastal sailing along the Intracoastal Waterway and Atlantic, with world-class facilities in Charleston Harbor (Ashley and Cooper Rivers, historic city access), Hilton Head Island (protected harbors and ICW), and Beaufort/Port Royal areas. The Lowcountry provides sheltered cruising, tidal creeks, and easy access to the ocean. Strong transient options via Dockwa; popular with cruisers heading north/south. Inland opportunities exist on lakes like Lake Murray and Lake Hartwell for smaller sailboats.
Boater Education
- South Carolina DNR Boater Education - Effective August 18, 2023, boaters born after July 1, 2007, are required to pass an approved NASBLA boater education course before operating a boat, personal watercraft (PWC), or specialty propcraft powered by 10 hp or more. The South Carolina Boater Education Certificate is issued upon successful completion (classroom or approved online). Carry proof.
